In April 2018, I summitted El Cajon Mountain for the 100th time, a goal I'd set sometime after my 50th ascent in 2014. This is one of the hardest hikes in San Diego County, covering approximately 12 miles with 4000 feet of elevation gain / loss. San Diego County Parks and Recreation produced a video in 2017 to document my goal, chasing me around on ATVs and giving me a GoPro camera to document my 82nd summit. I completed my 100th summit in April 2018 in a quiet way, with my better half Alex hiking with me. I continue to hike the mountain today, though not as frequently. Too many other beautiful hikes in our county!
